Getting started
What this is
A coach that helps you say your own thing, and never writes it for you.
thestory.run is a writing coach for people who post under their own name at work, on LinkedIn. It has one firm rule: it never writes your posts. No generated hooks, no “here’s a draft for you”. The intelligence goes into asking better questions, noticing what you actually said, and remembering what you set out to do.
There is exactly one exception, and you have to reach for it on purpose: cheat-mode spends one of a small monthly allowance to have the coach write a post for you, marks it permanently as coach-written, and does not count it toward your progress. The rule holds everywhere else, including the review, where the coach may offer one sentence of its own per read and you decide whether to take it.
Why it works that way
Anything that writes for you produces text that sounds like everyone else’s, and your audience can tell. So the coach does the opposite: it asks one earned question at a time, underlines the strong lines you already wrote, and hands you a shape to write into.
The shape of a day
- Open Homebase, your rhythm, this week’s two or three concrete tasks, and one line from the coach.
- Drop half-thoughts on the Ideas board whenever they hit you.
- Open one and work it into a post with the coach.
- Publish it to LinkedIn from the app, or mark it posted if you published it elsewhere. Nothing goes out without you pressing the button.
There is always a way out
No screen traps you into publishing. Parking a piece is a first-class choice, not a failure, and nothing you wrote is ever lost by leaving.
